Mahak's Author Study on Cassandra Clare

For my author study, I chose the author Cassandra Clare. I chose this author because I previously read her books and thought they were really well written. Something I would like to know is why she write about the topic that she does. The first book I read by her was really well written as well as being detailed. When reading these books, I can imagine the whole story in my head.

  1. A character in the books by Cassandra Clare that has caught my attention in Clarissa Fray. Clarissa, also known as Clary is the main author in these series. She is the main character in all the books in these series. Clary could be known as the stubborn person on these books. She has red hair, she could be considered short for her age. I feel that she is also a very brave person in these series. She's the type of person who goes after what she wants and that's how I can relate to her because I can be really stubborn at times as well. In the beginning she meets a guy, Jace, who is later said to be her brother which turns out to be a lie. In all this time that Clary knew that Jace was her brother she could not stop loving him. Even though they both tried it just wasn't possible. Also a way that she is brave is that she would do anything to protect the people she loves, even put herself in danger if needed. She's the type of person that sticks up for herself and the type of person who tries to get along with everyone because she knows that everyone can help each other out at some point.

Some of the many ways in which I can relate to her is that I could say we're alike in some ways. One of these ways is that we both take risks, especially for the people we love. We can both be very stubborn at times. Also she goes after what she wants and always wants to believe the best in people unless told otherwise. I feel that she is the significant character in this story because she is the main character. All that's being told in the story are the things that are happening to her and what she is going through. Her thoughts, her feelings and her emotions are felt and heard through these books.

  2. I think Cassandra Clare is one of the best authors I have read books by. There are many reasons as to why I would say this. One of these reasons are the way she writes her books, they are very well written. These books are very detailed where they should be. This is when there are fighting scenes as well when there are scenes between Jace and Clary and describing their actual relationship. At first Jace and Clary meet and they don't get along. After this they actually start to like each other and then find out that they are brother and sister. This breaks the both of them because they like each other a lot. Later on in the books they find out that they actually aren't brother and sister and they were both lied to. Valentine, Clary's father, basically lied to the both of them. And he did this because he knows that their love is both of their weakness. Another reason why these books are really good is because the way the main characters are developed. Clary, one of the main characters, is reckless at times. She would do anything for the people she loves. Jace on the other hand is somewhat different. He is hard headed and stubborn at times. But he would also do anything for the people he loves like Clary. They are both the same in some ways yet different in many others. The style and setting of these books are really good as well. I feel the setting really goes along with what the books are about. This is why I think Cassandra Clare is one of the best authors I have read books by.

  3. Cassandra Clare's style of writing is one of the reasons why I think her book are really well written. She uses a lot of detail when writing her books. Cassandra Clare gives her audience a full view into the characters worlds. This is how she makes the connection with the audience. She uses certain details that she knows the audience wants to know, and she puts them in her books. She also uses certain words that are familiar and they actually go together so that her books make sense. Cassandra Clare writes from a third person point of view which lets the audience know what is going on with every character.

When reading her books I can imagine what is going on in the story. And her style of writing helps with this because it helps the audience understand what is going on in the books. If it were not for this the audience would not be able to understand what is going on and the storyline would be confusing. And since the books I am reading are a series it would only make sense to read all the books in it. The details help the audience be able to imagine the book and better understand it.

  4. For my author study I was planning on either making a prezi or making a really creative poster. I feel that if I make a prezi I can explain everything in as much detail as I would like. If I were to make a poster I can be really creative with it. I could make things pop out of the poster itself. This would be one of the ways to make the poster creative and not have it just a poster. Picking an author and reading books by them was the easiest part because i knew right awat who i wanted to read books by.
I feel like the research was okay to do. It wasnt exactly easy to find sources on why she decided to write about the topic that she did. I feel like I found some facts on why she's writing about the topic that she is. I

  5. I think here are many pros and cons to the Author Study. Some of the pros are that it helps you as a reader. I think it helps by actually making someone read more than one book by that author. Many people may read just one book by an author and decide to move on because they might not like the author. But the fact might be that they haven't fully understood the author yet. I know that if I myself hadn't read the two books that I did I would have never found the answer that I was looking for.
I think the Author Study project helps people to communicate with others. And this would be by basically forcing them to explain their thoughts. I think doing the blogs helps with this because I knew I had to write at least 2 paragraphs on the prompts. Writing 2 paragraphs meant I had to think about what I was writing and what I should.
I think this project also helps to learn more about the author that you are reading. This would be by doing research. Doing research makes you learn more your author in detail. I know that before doing the research that I did, I never would have known as much about my author as I do now. By doing the research on my author I got to find the answer that I had asked for my author study project.
This project also helped with research and organizational skills because you had to organize your thoughts. You couldn't just put everything everywhere because then no one would understand anything about your author and what you had done for the project. You had to research certain things to find the answer that you were looking for.
