This
author is recommended by many people, so I figured I would see what her books
are like. I gave it a try and currently
am almost finished with one of her books called Mercy. This book really keeps you interested by telling
the reader what each person is thinking and having a couple different issues
happening at the same time. There is really
never a dull moment because once something dies down the author switches to
another issue happening and then will eventually go back. I am really enjoying this book so far and I am looking forward to reading more from her.
I am interested in knowing why she wrote her
book the way she did, with switching back and forth to different issues. The book has so many ideas going on that I
wonder how she came up with them. Do
they relate to something that happened in her life? Did she just think up all of it on her
own? Did this happen to someone she
knows? I really want to know how she
thought of the story line, because the story line really does make you
think. So many questions on how she came
up with such an interesting book.
In Jodi Picoults book Mercy, one of the main characters really grabs my attention. Not just because she is a main character, but because you can tell she becomes stronger throughout the book. Allie in this book is the police chiefs wife. In the beginning she believes in keeping her husband, Cam, happy by saying that its her fault when bad things happen, by doing anything and everything for him, by putting his feelings before her own, etc. Allie has a very nice personality and would help anyone if needed. Throughout the book things are done that hurt her and that break her heart. The things don't physically hurt her but they hurt her emotionally and mentally. When she finds out what has been done by her husband, you can see the strong woman she becomes and you can admire how she deals with the situation until the end of the book.
ReplyDeleteAllie is very significant to the whole story. Without her there would still be a storyline but it wouldn't be nearly as good as it is. Her part helps the emotional aspect of the book and makes the book more interesting. The kind of interesting where you don't want to put the book down, you just want to keep reading. I connect with this character because if I'd put myself in her shoes during the situation, I'd hope to deal with it the way she did. It shocked me when she gave the response she did and I was very impressed.
I have started a new book by Jodi Picoult and its called Second Glance. The last book I read was Mercy and it was a really good book, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I am not really far into Second Glance yet but the beginning started out on the slow side, but I feel it is getting more interesting now. The way this book is set up, it jumps around from person to person and since I am not familiar with the characters yet I was confused a bit, but now I am starting to understand better.
ReplyDeleteI am wondering why she chose to write Second Glance. I think paranormal activity is going to be a main thing in this book and I am curious if it is a interest of hers, if paranormal activity has happened around her, or if it is just random. I am also curious why most of her books have love in them. I have heard that they all have a love story in them and I wonder if she just likes writing about love stories or if she just writes about them because she is good at it. I am really excited to get further into the book because I feel it is going to be really good and interesting.
Jodi Picoult has a very good way with words when it comes to her books. It doesnt necessarily flow though because she switches her focus on each character throughout the books. For example one paragraph will be focused on one main character and the next paragraph will be focused on another main paragraph. These paragraphs can include what the character is doing and what the character is thinking. In my opinion this gets you to read more because if the one paragraph is focused on one character and its a really interesting paragraph then she switches her focus in the next paragraph, you want to keep reading until you reach the next paragraph that focused on the character that was interesting.
ReplyDeleteI have read one book by her so far called Mercy and i am currently reading Second Glance. These books have great detail and are very interesting. When I was reading Mercy I wanted to keep reading it constantly because her words and the story line kept you interested. The way she writes in detail has made it easier for you to picture in your mind what is going on. I wouldnt say there is a lot of dialogue but I also wouldnt say there is a little bit of dialogue either. Its just the right amount of dialogue to keep you interested and let you know whats going on. I overall really enjoy her style of writing and am excited to continue reading the book Mercy.
For my author study i want to make a poster for my visual. The reason for wanting to make a poster as of now is because i want to make sure my information is organized and easy to understand. I might put the information in different groups or i might use my research process to organize it. I think this will be a good way to convey all my information because it will show my research process and it will be easy to understand.
ReplyDeleteWhen i put my working question on my poster, i will make sure it stands out because that is a very important piece to this project. I will also start by explaining why i chose Jodi Piccoult, this will help understand my interest in her books. In the poster i want to include all the information that will explain everything because that will help the audience understand.
This author study assignment has helped me in a couple different ways. One way this had helped me is it taught me how to read in between the lines. For example the answer to my author study question didn't just jump out at me. I had to read between the lines and process all the information to come up with what I thought to be the answer. As a reader, after I read one of the books, I thought about what I read and came up with a question. This helped me because I had to think about the things I read and think about what i wanted to know.
ReplyDeleteThe author study encouraged me to communicate with others by me creating a visual to share with others. This assignment focused on one author and that gave us the opportunity to focus on what we really wanted to know. Overall this assignment was a good learning thing.
