I chose Ellen Hopkins for my person for the author
study, I have heard a lot about her stories and I was always really interested
in wanting to read her books so I finally chose to read one of her books. I honestly
love her style of writing because it keeps my attention and it never gets
boring and I want to keep reading. On page 97 said “hot flush, raging blush,
quick- start ignition. See how much I need you? Ice flash, instant crash,
voices outside the door. No! Don’t stop now!” this just caught my attention and
I didn’t want to stop reading it leaves you thinking what is next. Also on page
105 “I got up, headed for the door, hoping Adam would try to stop me. But lust
is stronger than love. And monster lust is unconquerable.” That sentence made
me read more because I wanted to know did he run after her or did he just not
care.
I would like to know why Ellen chose to right like
the way she does in her books. I feel as though it holds my attention more the
way she has it written because it’s not like I’m just reading an average book
it pulls you in when you have to read it the way she writes it. I would like to
know what made her want to write this book about crank. I am glad I chose her
as an author because these books do not bore me.
Kristina or her other name for herself was Bree, Bree became her bad side. Bree did drugs, drank alcohol, and hung out with guys and did not care about anything. While Kristina was this smart girl and got perfect grades, her parents never had to worry about her because she took care of herself. Bree makes terrible decisions and would do anything to feel high. Bree also started to be rude to her mom and not care about anything, she would lie to her mom. Kristina went away over the summer to her dads house and came back as different person she didn’t want to talk to anyone even her best friends since she was young she wanted friends that were the same as her.
ReplyDeleteI think this character connects to me because I have changed a lot, I changed a little differently than she did, and I changed in a positive way. She took a downward spiral and started doing drugs and drinking and getting with a lot of guys and I changed to care more about my future and were I am going but how I connect with her is because we both stopped caring so much about what others think and just worried about ourselves and to make ourselves not so unconfident, and just say I can put my mind to anything. She is the main character and she is very important because she starts to notice her mistakes and she started to try to fix them.
The book for the last post was Crank
ReplyDeleteI am reading Impulse by Ellen which is a different book. This book sometimes loses me it has multiple stories going on at once. In this story the way it is written is just like a poem and that's how she writes which I really enjoy because I feel like it holds me to the book more due to it being easier to get through. Impulse is a book that has a lot to it and many stories about different individuals in a single story.
ReplyDeleteThis story keeps me having to pay really hard attention to exactly what is happening to each person in the story. This story is happening in a rehab facility and it is all teenagers. It talks a lot about there lives and what they went through in there past and why the are scared to open up to the counselors. Most of the young kids that have things that happen to them they turn out bad when no one believes them because they think no body cares.
I am reading Impulse by Ellen Hopkins, the way she writes is in a poetic form. There is a lot of description as she writes, she goes into very much detail for sometimes not writing a large amount. The words she uses are very descriptive when it comes to talking about a person. All of her writing is written in poetic form which does not change at all throughout her stories.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of dialogue for the most part of the story one of the characters is talking to another character. The style of writing keeps my attention because one person will have 3 poem chapters which each poem is two pages. The theme of this book is based on a rehab center which a bunch of young kids go to so it's for adolescents. Ellen Hopkins writes poetic in a lot of her books and personally I think it really holds my attention.
My plans are to gather all of the information from her past that would influence why she started writing. I want to talk a lot about her past and what has her writing about drugs. I want to include stories she wrote into my visual. I also really want to include her love life because it was sort of all over the place.
ReplyDeleteThe visual I am going to design will be a house because I believe everything in life that shows the person you are comes from where you live. I think this will be the best kind of visual because her book Crank which was the first book of hers that I read and it was based mostly on the one girls life and everything that happened began with her home life. My working question is, what happened in Ellen Hopkins past that influenced her writing. I really want my visual to show the way her life was.
I think that this author study project has made me improve in these ways, it has helped me to realize that you need to read to the best of your ability to get what you need completed. The con of this is that you had read multiple books and even if it is really large book you need to put in a lot of effort to read them. The pro of having to communicate with others about reading was that they could give advice on what to write and ideas for a topic. The con of this would be that if you don't like what someone has to say you have to deal with it.
ReplyDeleteI think the pro of what helps to learn about a specific author is that the information given helps show how to work on a more difficult topic of writing so it teaches you really how to research something. The con would be trying to find a good topic. The pro of how it fosters research and organizational skills would be to have everything well organized so that the project would be well thought out to receive the best grade possible. The con of this would be if you don't have organizational skills.
