The reason I chose James
Patterson for my author study is because two other classmates told me how good
his books are. I don’t read many books, because I lose interest in them to fast.
James Patterson has some very action packed stories that hold my attention, almost
as a movie would. Tick Tock, the book
I am currently reading is all about a cop trying to bust a criminal, who is
planting bombs in some of the most historical, iconic, and busiest places in
New York.
One
thing I would like to know about James Patterson is if he actually researches
all of his information or if he just has that knowledge of being places and
experiencing things. He is very detailed about places in Tick Tock and not only the places, but what the bombs are made of,
how they are constructed, and what triggers them. I would also like to know
what inspired this story, and his other more popular books.

ReplyDeleteAuthor Study Reflection Prompt #2
ReplyDeleteA character in Tick Tock that has caught my attention would be Mr. Berger. Mr. Berger is a wealthy man who also just so happens to be a serial killer. Berger keeps a lot of his thoughts to himself, which is probably for the best. His motives are past killers who were famous for the crimes they committed. He lives amongst daily New Yorkers, and no one ever bats an eye.
Without this character there would be no story, which obviously makes him pretty important. Berger has been planting bombs and killing throughout NY and leaving clues for the main character to solve. Berger has a personal vendetta against the protagonist so that is the significant connection between the character and the storyline as a whole.
Author Study Reflection Prompt #3
ReplyDeleteToday I’m blogging about what I think inspired James Patterson to write Tick Tock. I think the author might have gotten the idea from a CSI show on TV. The majority of things in this book detective related feel like they are straight out of a TV show.
One thing I really appreciate when reading this book is the details. I have to give the author props, because he really did his research before he wrote this book.
I think that the author may have also gotten his ideas from just walking around seeing police around the area and almost observing them. I think this is interesting, because the author doesn’t only write about the action and drama, but he also writes about the personal life and family life of the character. This is important because it create more dynamic characters that are easier to relate to.
Author Study Reflection Prompt #4
ReplyDeleteJames Patterson’s style of writing really knows how to pull the reader in. When I read my book by Patterson, every now and then I completely forget I’m even reading. Patterson has a gritty way of describing his crime scenes, but he can also pull of romance every now and then pretty well. He has a very wide area of
expertise when it comes to genres.
James really gets into the heads of his characters and shows their emotion towards things in the plot. I feel that James uses a bit more narrative rather than dialogue. The fact that he can write about a made up person, and make them feel so real is amazing. He does a great job at explaining his daily life through a father/police officer/ bachelor way.
My plans for my author study visual will be creating a six sided die. I feel that this is the best visual for me because it’s a physical object that you actually have to interact with in order to learn from it. I will most likely cut out about for equal cardboard square and hot glue them together. Then I will wrap it in construction paper and on each surface I will have a factual paragraph.
ReplyDeleteEach surface will provide a different topic on James Patterson’s life and origin. Overall I think this will be a pretty solid visual.
Author Study Reflection Prompt #5
ReplyDeleteI feel that the Author Study helps to develop the mind of the reader by making them think about certain in-depth questions. Some questions are more wide open to interpretation than others, which allow the mind to really wonder and expand on the topic. The Author Study also encourages the reader to communicate with others, especially if you are reading the same book, or the same author. If you are reading the same books/authors then you can bounce ideas off of each other and expand that way.
This assignment helps the reader learn about the author, by diving deep into detailed questions about the author. The study makes the reader really think about things rather than just finding random facts. The Author Study finally also helps the reader obtain organizational skills by creating annotated bibliographies.
