Tyrus Rankin Author Study on Rick Riordan

Tyrus Rankin

The Red Pyramid, by Rick Riordan

The character that really caught my attention in this book is a boy named Carter. His physical traits are that he is an African American male and I picture him as a kind of skinny kid from how he acts and all of the things that I read. Some other personality traits that he has are that he is shy and really timid. He doesn't like to be outgoing and do different things. He likes to just follow all rules that are set for him and keep that routine.

I think he is significant and really connects to me because he gets my attention the most. He is supposed to be one of the main characters who is saving the world and he seems shy and weak to me. How is he supposed to save the world like that? He is starting to go through some changes now that he has to save the world and his Dad like he is being a lot more adventurous than normal. He is also changing because he is starting to become more of a risk taker.

  1. The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan is a fantasy book. This genre is a very different kind of genre that attracts only a few kind of readers. What kinds of readers like to read fantasy though and what audience is my author trying to target in his books?

I believe that he is trying to connect to the younger audiences that are currently in middle school or high school. I believe this because of what my author talks about. Most of his characters are teenagers that you feel like you can relate too. The subjects that he writes about are very serious too. He writes about gods and mythical creatures and all different things. I don't picture adults liking to read fantasy books really.

  2. I am going to create a poster and put pictures on it which link to each other. Doing this will make it almost like a timeline. It will also be the best thing to help my classmates follow what happened in his life. Plus I am not the most artistic person so it will be something easier that I can handle.
This will help answer my working question a lot of different ways. It is how does his life influence his books and where does he get the basis for most of his books since they are the same. The timeline will answer my question by going through his life and showing some of his experiences that may influence him. It may also help me make a connection between his main characters that are similar in his books.

  3. Anytime you read for a consistent amount of time it helps you develop as a reader. Reading will help increase peoples vocabulary and other different things. It helps you try and communicate with others because of how you can ask people what their author is like compared to yours. You could also compare the styles of writing which the author uses. This helps me learn about my author and what influenced his works. I knew that there had to be something since all of his books were pretty similar in styles of writing and how the characters were developed. It helps me find better ways to research because to answer my question I really had to search a lot and think of more in depth questions.
